ENGINE PRE-OILER PHOTO'S AND TIPS

Pre-oiler Photo's and Tips

Tips

1. Did you fill the crankcase?

2. Be sure your pre-oiler shaft is all the way into the pump slot and the pre-oiler is flat on the block (you may have to turn the shaft slightly to achieve this.)

3. To make your pre-oiler hands free, use your distributor "hold down" to keep things in place.

4. Be sure your drill is set for clockwise rotation.

5. The object of pre-oiling is to avoid a "dry start" . We do this by eliminating the lag time by pre-filling the oil filter, oil block passages and priming the oil pump. To this end, once you start spinning the pre-oiler shaft, continue until a steady state is reached on the oil pressure gauge. This takes a full two minutes. You will feel the drag on your drill as the oil pump starts to push the oil. Keep going for the balance of the time.

6. Once the engine is properly pre-oiled, you can replace the pre-oiler with your distributor and you are ready to go!

Bonus: Cut an old housing, epoxy the center, and you have a plug for the distributor hole when storing an engine.
